2 Participation in constituent body meetings
A 6% increase in female participation since 2015 Main driver: targeted action (Women’s Leadership Workshops, gender session at RA III RECO, Regional Gender Action Plan (RA III))

3 Female participation exceeded 30-35% in 5 sessions (mostly TCs)
Lower in regional association sessions (except RA III) Challenges in sustaining (CHy-15 vs CHy-Ext.)

4 Leadership & Management
Only 22% of principal delegates to constituent body sessions were women ( ) Over 30% women on TC Management Groups (11% increase since 2015) Balance in CAeM and CAgM (46%), CCl (43%) Only 18% on RA Management groups

5 Constituent Body Working Structures
Female experts in 5 constituent bodies exceed 30% Overall a 5% increase in female experts since 2015

6 Women remain too few on expert teams and working groups of RA I (16%), CBS (16%), RA IV (17%), CIMO (18%, up from 10%)

7 Secretariat Gender balance achieved for professional posts
Women are still underrepresented in senior management

8 Gender Action Plan Notable achievements
Gender equality on the agenda of all constituent body meetings 11 out of 14 bodies adopted resolutions/decisions on the subject 115 female delegates and NMHS professionals took part in 4 Women’s Leadership Workshops on the margins of CHy-15, JCOMM-5, CAgM-17, RA I-17 RA III adopted an action plan for advancing gender equality Greater Horn of Africa: first regional climate outlook forum dedicated on gender-sensitive climate services

9 Gender Action Plan Remaining gaps
Ad hoc implementation (constituent bodies and Members) Female participation in governance Broader awareness raising (e.g. similar to RA III RECO session) Continued investment needed in capacity development, including leadership Further effort on gender-responsive service provision (role for TCs) Need more systematic incorporation in regional trainings, NMHS Directors/management training, RTCs Opportunities Reform

10 Draft Resolution 9.5/1 Recognizes this opportunity presented by governance reform Emphasizes that diversity and inclusion are instrumental for modern organizations (foster innovation, boost performance, better serve society) Notes with satisfaction the progress made and the dedicated effort on behalf of TCs and RAs Notes remaining challenges, the need to sustain the achievements made and replicate good practice Endorses updated Action Plan and priorities for Calls for: Accelerated implementation at regional and national level Nurturing networks of female scientists and experts Invest in capacity development
