In front of a crowd of around 100,000 spectators and excited reporters, the Titanic began her maiden journey, first collecting the passengers sailing – even migrating – to America. It was a voyage that would end in disaster amidst the ice-strewn waters of the Atlantic.

2,825 miles – the longest leg of the voyage, from Queenstown, Ireland to New York. 137 hours – the anticipated time sailing across the Atlantic Ocean. 116 hours – the typical time to cover the same distance by the Titanic’s rivals—the Lusitania and Mauritania.
