Asexual Reproduction:
CLONING
2
Cloning Is the type of asexual reproduction used by some insects, bacteria, strawberries etc. Clones of a dog, frog, cat (“Copy Cat”), Camel etc. have been created.
3
Dolly – 1st Cloned Mammal, 1997
4
Stem Cells Unspecialized cells that have the ability to reproduce itself and differentiate into a specialized cell Found in bone marrow, blood of umbilical cord, embryos etc.
5
Facts: Clones will be an identical twin to the parent, except younger
Clones have the same genes as the parent, but environmental factors affect how they are expressed.
6
Misconceptions A clone would have feelings and emotions identical to those of the donor A clone would be the same age as the donor Produces a copy of yourself so that you will be immortal Produces Albert Einstein or other famous people
7
Applications Creates plants that produce high crop yields
Produces organs for transplant Produces copies of your skin cells to treat burns Saves species close to extinction

Considerations The future?
GATTACA Antonio: We were just wondering if, if it is good to just leave a few things to, to chance? Geneticist: We want to give your child the best possible start. Believe me, we have enough imperfection built in already. Your child doesn't need any more additional burdens. Keep in mind, this child is still you. Simply, the best, of you. You could conceive naturally a thousand times and never get such a result.

Considerations Responsibility
Uncle Ben: This guy, Flash Thompson, he probably deserved what happened. But just because you can beat him up doesn't give you the right to. Remember, with great power, comes great responsibility Peter Parker: Whatever life holds in store for me, I will never forget these words: "With great power comes great responsibility." This is my gift, my curse. Who am I? I'm Spider-man.

Record your Ideas Cloning Pro Con Save endangered species
Cloned humans may be treated like animals Organs for transplants Is this right?? Improved animals that can survive harsh conditions in developing countries Designer children, manufactured people Animals for fur coats Devaluation of clones/ non-clones in comparison “Spare parts” for yourself Uniqueness of the individual
