Course Type Vocational Exam Board/ Specification OCR Course Description Learners will study five units made up of mandatory and optional units. Mandatory units: Body systems and the effects of physical activity (external examination – 70 marks) Sports coaching and activity leadership (Course work) Sports organisation and development (external examination – 60 marks) Additional units: Sports injuries and rehabilitation Organisation of sports events

Entry Requirements A grade B at GCSE PE is preferred. Entrants must have a keen interest in PE, sport and fitness. Assessment These qualifications are assessed using a combination of: External assessment (examinations) Internal assessment. This consists of course work tasks that can take the form of written tasks, presentations, practical assessments. All course work is externally moderated. Future Opportunities Academic and vocational courses in HE with this qualification, and/ or go into a wide variety of careers in sport, teaching, coaching, health and fitness, performance, public services and armed forces. The course develops key leadership, organisation and communication skills. 

4 Units of Study Units of Study Unit content Body systems and the effects of physical activity (exam) (Y12) Structures and functions of the key body systems, how these support and impact performance in sport and physical activity, and the effects that physical activity, training and lifestyle can have on them. Sports coaching and activity leadership (Y12) This unit looks at what makes good sports coaches and activity leaders and methods that can be employed to improve the performance of sports participants. The unit explores the roles and responsibilities of coaches and leaders and how these differ from each other. The main part of the unit is related to developing the skills and understanding necessary to effectively plan and deliver a series of sports or activity sessions and reflecting on own practise and using this to improve performance as a sports coach or activity leader. Sports organisation and development (exam) This unit explores the organisations involved in sport in the UK, their roles and responsibilities and how they work together. Learners will gain an understanding of sports development including the organisations involved, who sports development is targeted at and why, how sports development is carried out and how the success of sports development initiatives can be measured. Sports injuries and rehabilitation This unit will teach learners how to recognise and treat common sports injuries. The unit looks at immediate and longer-term rehabilitation programmes, the possible psychological impacts of sports injuries and how to minimise the risk of sports injuries occurring in the first instance. Organisation of sports events This unit is designed for you to develop skills in planning, promoting and delivering a sports event; with a focus primarily on your individual role as well as working as part of a team and reflecting on your input and future personal development. This unit will enable you to establish transferable skills which can be used within sport and active leisure as well as within the fitness industry. It will also enhance skills such as team work, organisation and safeguarding awareness.

5 Course Expectations Positive attitude towards learning and achieving your best. Punctuality - Arrive ON TIME. Independent and organised. Attendance -catch up on work missed. Deadlines KIT – Black shorts/Plain black tracksuit bottoms, polo shirt – White or Black, Trainers (No pumps!). (Outdoor kit) Sports Leader - Lead extra curricular and lower school sessions – this is part of the course. Use to communicate absence, work etc. USB!

6 Lessons & Teachers 6 lessons over 2 weeks.
1 practical per week (Mr McCroakam x 1) Miss Secker = Unit 1 Exam Mrs Smith = Unit 2 C/wk INDEPENDENT WORK: You are expected to complete 1 hour of home work per lesson = 3 hours per week for PE. Leadership in PE lessons

8 TASK: Assignment 1: The skeletal system and joints of the body
