Consultation on Draft Framework FEBRUARY - JUNE 2019 qualitypatientsafety.ca Hello, my name is …………... and I am ……………….…... Thank you for this opportunity to provide you with an overview of the consultation for the Canadian Quality and Patient Safety Framework for health and social services.

2 Purpose of Framework People in Canada expect and deserve safe, high quality health and social services and Canada has many strengths to achieve higher performance on global quality and safety rankings. The Canadian Quality and Patient Safety Framework for Health and Social Services provides the foundation to realize this ambition. This framework is meant to guide: People in Canada expect and deserve safe, high quality health and social services. Canada has many strengths to achieve higher performance rankings on global quality and safety rankings. The purpose of this framework is to provide the foundation to realize this ambition. The framework is intended to guide 4 different priority populations. They are: ●Patients and families on what a high quality and safe experience looks like for them and empower them to be engaged members of their care team. ●Health and Social Services providers to develop care plans for their patients that puts patient experience and safety at the forefront and guides day-to-day decisions on care. ●Organization leaders to promote a culture of quality and safety amongst their teams and support them by allocating resources through their strategic and operational plans. ●Policy makers when deciding how healthcare is funded, delivered and monitored. Here you see a snapshot of the Canadian Quality and Patient Safety Framework for Health and Social Services which you can access in its entirety on the consultation website qualitypatientsafety.ca. It outlines 5 goal areas, 13 objectives and 28 anticipated outcomes to inspire and accelerate the improvement of the healthcare and social services system that puts people first. It is key to note that this framework is still very much a DRAFT. qualitypatientsafety.ca

Breakthrough in national health policy and alignment on renewed expectations in Canadian healthcare that will put patients at the centre What will success look like? Why are we doing this and what impact will it have? Success will be a breakthrough in national health policy and alignment on renewed expectations in Canadian healthcare that will put patients at the centre. Our intent is to inform and inspire Canadian national and jurisdictional work around quality and patient safety. It is not meant to replace existing good work in this area, but to provide information and support to those jurisdictions that may not yet be as advanced in their Quality and Patient Safety work. Importantly, as an outcome of this framework, CPSI and HSO are committed to align their future organizational priorities with this framework. This includes the development of future standards, improvement resources, training and assessment programs and working with partners towards achieving improved quality and safe health and social services.
