Tuesday March 7th 2017 MA = FO/FI MA = 300 N/60 N MA = 5
Page 581 The formula for mechanical advantage (MA) is output force/input force. Using the formula, MA = FO/FI…solve the following problem. Mr. Smith exerts 60 N of force on a machine and the machine exerts 300 N on another object. What would be the mechanical advantage of Mr. Smith’s machine? MA = FO/FI MA = 300 N/60 N MA = 5

Wednesday March 8th 2017 W = F x d W = 200 J W = 20 N x 10 m W = F x d
The whole point of using machines is that it makes work easier for people. Work can be mathematically calculated using the “work formula”. The formula for calculating work is force times distance (W = F x d). With that being said…solve for the following problems…(remember to record your answer in Joules (J). Amy uses 20N of force to push a lawn mower 10 meters. How much work does she do? How much work does an elephant do while moving a circus wagon 20 meters with a pulling force of 200N? W = F x d W = 200 J W = 20 N x 10 m W = F x d W = 200 N x 20 m W = 4000 J
