Writing Tips . . . It’s a brutal world.
When you don’t use correct grammar and punctuation, it’s difficult to take you seriously. Correct the following mistakes on a clean page in your spiral however you see fit.
4
Fix ‘em! Mrs. Ault went to the grocery store, she needed to buy a cane for support. Mrs. Ault works at austin high school and wants her students to learn to capitalize stuff and make it sound good and stuff. I think that learning new things is a good way to challenge yourself i like to learn and be the bestest student eva!!!!!!
5
Sentence Variety Writing all your sentences the SAME way every time will make the reader cry, scream, or even projectile vomit on your essay. Practice writing sentences using the following starting strategies to prevent these issues.
6
Sentence Variety Prepositional Phrase Noun Gerund Before she left...
After the crash... Noun School is the place where... Gerund Swimming gives me freedom... Eating this cake...
7
Sentence Variety Absolute Phrase
"At a right angle to the school was the back of the church, its bricks painted the color of dried blood." (Pete Hamill, A Drinking Life, 1994)
8
Sentence Variety Infinitive Phrase: (begins with “to”)
To get through the day without murdering any students, was Mrs. Ault’s pure goal.
9
Sentence Variety Another suggestion, is to vary your sentence length.
“It can be very effective to have a long, descriptive sentence with lots of details to get your reader in a rhythm. Then drop a short one. When done well, this can be helpful in keeping your reader moving on within the passage without them knowing it. You’re so sneaky.”
