A King of France died w/out sons; two claimed throne, one French & one English
B. French got throne – upset English
C. English invade France
D. English did well at first
E. Joan of Arc rallied French troops (eventually captured & killed)

8. VI. Results of War
A. England: Parliament’s power grew, because their permission was needed for funds
B. France: king’s power increased. Fighting together bonded king & nobles

9. VII. The Black Death
A. Started in central & eastern Asia – brought by rats on trading ships in 1347
B. Quickly spread
C. Different plagues
D. Many buried quickly
E. Villages abandoned
F. Killed millions (about 1/3 of European population)
G. Fuedalism died – not enough workers. Workers could demand wages . Many moved to cities
