Pack & Go -Dublin

PROJECT PACK AND GO We’re 14 students who attend V.F Pareto high school. Our school is in Milan and we study Psychology. This year we took part in a project called Pack & Go. Thanks to this experience we spent two fantastic weeks in Dublin.

FIRST WEEK (23-30th September)

Everyone at lessons! In the morning, from 9.00 am to am, we attended a lot of English lessons at the DCU (Dublin City University) The lessons were about the world of work: How to find a work Creation of a Curriculum Vitae and the cover letter Interview Culture shock

Discovering Dublin and sorroundings
During the afternoon and the weekend we visited the Centre of Dublin and a lot of museums. We were all the time with some DCU’s guides.

City Tour The first day we went to the city centre. We visited some characteristic and famous places, such as: ●St. Patrick’s Cathedral ● Trinity College ● Molly Malone ● Christ Church Cathedral

National Gallery On the second day, the programme was the visit to the National Gallery. There are exposed a lot of masterpieces such as works ofPicasso, Renoir, Monet, Mantegna e Perugino.

Howth After that, we went to the village of Howth, which is located at 30 minutes by train from Dublin. At the end of the suggestive experience, we spent the evening in a local pub.

Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) and National Museum
On the third day we visited two of the most important museums of Dublin: ♣ Irish Museum of Modern Art which has about 3500 artworks of local And international artists ♣ National Museum of Ireland which preserves Neolithic, Middle Ages and Ancient Egypt artifacts

Trinity College The next day we went to Trinity College, a popular University frequented by artists like Oscar Wilde and Jonathan Swift. There we vsited the famous Library, the biggest of Ireland which has over 4 million books including the well known Book of Kells.

Glendalough and Bray Other places that we enjoyed so much were Glendalough and the maritime location of Bray. ♣ At Glendalough, after crossing an ancient monastery, you can discover a breathless landscape, set of the Harry Potter's saga.

Natural History Museum
Saturday afternoon we visited the Natural History Museum where we discovered embalmed animals like the Giant Deer or rare insects.

Sandycove and James Joyce Museum
♣ On Sunday we entirely dedicated the day to visit the seaside resort of Sandycove, where we visited the Martello Tower, refuge of the writer and poet James Joyce.

SECOND WEEK (1st-6th October)

At work! During the second week each of us had a working experience in more different places of Dublin: ♣ Trinity City Hotel ♣ DCU Interfaifth centre ♣ DCU Bar ♣ Charity Shops

Trinity City Hotel ♣ In this week, six of us worked in one of the most popular Dublin’s Hotels. Some students played the role of front office manager, others of housekeeping.

Dcu Interfaith Centre ♣ Three guys carried out social activities at the Interfaith Centre of Dcu Univercity, a space thought to be used as a meeting place for teenagers coming from different countries. ♣ Thanks to this experience they improved their english, and knew something new about other countries’ culture.

Dcu Bar ♣ Two girls stayed at the Dcu’s Cafe, working as Food & Beverage assistants.

Charity Shop ♣ Other three girls worked as cashiers or shop assistants in two Charity Shops of Dublin: Enable and Oxfam. ♣ The Charity Shop is a place managed by a charity organisation, that have the purpose of raise funds especially for people with economic difficulties. From the garage sale are sold a lot of donated things like clothes, books, CDs, DVDs and furniture.

Bye Bye Dublin! Thanks to this experience we lived two weeks in Dublin, where we had the possibility and the need to talk in english. We were guests of Irish families, so we knew costums and mores of a foreign country and we related with people with a lifestyle very different from ours. But especially our working week helped us to improve our autonomy, responsability and independence.
