Our Week in Review Sep. 10 – Sep. 14 Math Upcoming Events: Science
September 17: Back to School Night 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. September 24: Fall Picture Day September 26: Coffee with Crowther 7:50 a.m. October 3: Walk to School Day October 8: Parent Conference Day (no school for students) October 31: Storybook Character Day HOMEWORK POLICY: 20 minutes of Reading per night 10 minutes of Addition/Subtraction Fact Fluency Math This week we compared numbers. We practiced building numbers and putting them in order from least to greatest and greatest to least. Next week, we continue to investigate in Unit 1: Foundations of Number. We will be comparing numbers and discussing vocabulary used to compare numbers. Science This week in Science, we continued learning about matter. We discussed solids and liquids and the characteristics of each. We also did some hands-on activities to explore matter. Next week, we will be building bridges!! Social Studies This week, we reviewed SAIL expectations and how we can be contributing members of our classroom community. ELAR This week in ELAR we reviewed how to choose a “just right” book. We practiced Independent Reading with books we chose from the library. We read The Kissing Hand and Chester and the Big Bad Bully and talked about the moral of the story. We also talked about making connections (making deep connections) with The Invisible Boy when reading and how this can make us better readers. In phonics, we started Unit 1. Our focus this week was on sounds /ch/, /th/, and /sh/. Next week I will begin DRA (Reading Level) Testing. I will be sharing this information to you at our Parent/Teacher Conference.
