If you have not already done so: Define the terms development, quality of life, standard of living and sustainable development. Complete “think about it” on page 158. When looking at the examples in 4.2 and 4.3 – does sustainable development help to improve your chosen aspects of QOL? Briefly explain why. When looking closely at the examples, what are the aims of sustainable development projects?

Sustainability To be sustainable, there are 4 different things that must be done. Environment – we preserve the ecosystems Futurity – People think about future generations Equity – people are equal, everyone has their fair share Public participation – everyone working together
