5 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NKJV[6] But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. [7] So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. [8] And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

9 Sweeter Than Honey

10 2 Peter 1:19 NKJV[19] And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;

11 2 Peter 1:20 NKJV[20] knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,

12 2 Peter 1:21 NKJV[21] for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.

13 Psalm 119:103 How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth!

14 Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!

15 Proverbs 24:13 My son, eat honey because it is good, And the honeycomb which is sweet to your taste;

16 Do you like honey? Do you love Honey? I want to sweeten you this evening, with this beautiful analogy that we find in the word of God. The writer is comparing the Word of The Lord to Honey, but why Honey? Brothers, the Word of God is sweet, it is appealing, it is addictive, and for those who have a sweet tooth, it should be a normal thing to love the Sweetest Words from God. Can too much sugar hurt your health?

17 Psalm 19:7-10 7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; 8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes; 9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

18 When David declared that the Law of God is sweeter than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb, it probably caught many ancient people by surprise as it does many modern individuals. One can well understand this being said of God’s mercies, God’s visitations, His attributes. But what the poet is actually talking about is God’s law (7), His commands (8), His judgments (9) (here plainly means decisions or “ruling” about conduct). Notice that David does not merely respect God’s law, or try his best to obey God’s law, rather, he said that the law of God was delicious and exhilarating. Thus when Psalmist said that the righteous man is one who has his delight is in the law of the Lord (Ps 1:2), it would be very similar to us saying that someone “loves history”.

19 WHAT THE BIBLE IS AND WHAT IT DOES (Ps 19:7-10).
7a: “The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul;” The Lord is the one, through His Grace, that converts the souls of men when these are open and willing to obey His will. Nothing can be changed, but at the peril of losing our souls (Gal 1:8). Restores & converts – convinces us of sin (shows perfection-John 16:8.) The HS does that, He is the one making sure you and I have perfect understanding of the Word.

20 WHAT THE BIBLE IS AND WHAT IT DOES (Ps 19:7-10).
7b: “The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.” God’s testimony concerning His Son and eternal life. 1 John 5:9-10: If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son. He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son. Sure: Fixed, stable – not like shifting human reason. All can rely on it with most certain confidence. Ps 119:130: The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.

21 WHAT THE BIBLE IS AND WHAT IT DOES (Ps 19:7-10).
8a: “The precepts (statutes) of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart;” Who can doubt the rightness of dedicating the majority of time/life to special service of Him, to whom we owe our very existence (Acts 17:25). Result: “Rejoicing the heart” – Those who taste found a happy experience. Heb 6:5: For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, Acts 8:39: Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing. 1 Pet 1:8: “whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

22 WHAT THE BIBLE IS AND WHAT IT DOES (Ps 19:7-10).
8b “The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Clear in teaching – It is pure: In worship (John 4:24). In daily actions and thoughts (Phil 4:8). In speech (Eph 4:29; Col 4:2, 6). Enlightens the eyes: Eph 1:18-20; Eph 5:8-9: Eph 1:17-18 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, Eph 5:8-9 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), Phil 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Eph 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. Col 4:6 Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one. John 4:24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

23 WHAT THE BIBLE IS AND WHAT IT DOES (Ps 19:7-10).
9a: “The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever;” Deut 17:18-20: “Also it shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book, from the one before the priests, the Levites. And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes, that his heart may not be lifted above his brethren, that he may not turn aside from the commandment to the right hand or to the left, and that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children in the midst of Israel.  1 John 2:17: And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.

24 WHAT THE BIBLE IS AND WHAT IT DOES (Ps 19:7-10).
9b: “The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether.” We are incompetent to judge the evil/crime of sin, and God’s conduct toward it. Hab 1:13: “You are of purer eyes than to behold evil, And cannot look on wickedness. Why do You look on those who deal treacherously, And hold Your tongue when the wicked devours A person more righteous than he?” Man may complain, but God’s ways are true and righteous altogether. Ps 119:104: “Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way..”

25 WHAT THE BIBLE IS AND WHAT IT DOES (Ps 19:7-10).
10: The beauty of God’s law. Psalm 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. How much do we desire the word of the Lord in our lives? Do we believe what Jesus says in Matthew 4:4? Job 23:12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food.

26 WHAT THE BIBLE IS AND WHAT IT DOES (Ps 19:7-10).
10: The beauty of God’s law. Psalm 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Is the word of the Lord better than Gold? Gold is the most precious metal that everyone is seeking after. But David says, Your Word, oh Lord, is way better than that. Is It? Proverbs 8:19 My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, And my revenue than choice silver. Proverbs 8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold; Psalm 119:72 The law of Your mouth is better to me Than thousands of coins of gold and silver. Proverbs 16:16 How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. Psalm 119:127 Therefore I love Your commandments More than gold, yes, than fine gold! Proverbs 8:11 For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.

27 WHAT THE BIBLE IS AND WHAT IT DOES (Ps 19:7-10).
10: The beauty of God’s law. Psalm 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Is the Word of The Lord Sweet in your life? When does the Word of God become honey in me? Joel 2:26 You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, And praise the name of the Lord your God, Who has dealt wondrously with you; And My people shall never be put to shame. Isaiah 55:1  “Ho! Everyone who thirsts, Come to the waters; And you who have no money, Come, buy and eat. Yes, come, buy wine and milk Without money and without price. Isaiah 1:19 If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land;

28 WHAT THE BIBLE IS AND WHAT IT DOES (Ps 19:7-10).
10: The beauty of God’s law. Psalm 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Is the Word of The Lord Sweet in your life? When does the Word of God become honey in me? When does the word of The Lord become sour in my life? Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, Heb 2:1-3 Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. Isaiah 1:20 But if you refuse and rebel, You shall be devoured by the sword”; For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

29 The Holy Spirit wants to comfort us tonight, by telling us that The Law Of The Lord can be very sweet in our lives, as long as we are willing to receive it. The word of the Spirit is: A Sword. A fire. A Light. Like Honey. Are you willing to receive the instruction from the Holy Spirit this evening? He wants to equip us, but it depends on us if we want to receive it.
