1 Linear Graphs – Gradient-Intercept Method – Worksheet C
In this competitive activity students attempt to destroy enemy ships using equations of lines. You may want to specify exactly what type of equation students must use. You can increase/decrease the time to play by adding/removing ships. The worksheet is provided in 2 sizes.

2 Printing To print handouts from slides -
Select the slide from the left. Then click: File > Print > ‘Print Current Slide’ To print multiple slides - Click on a section title to highlight all those slides, or press ‘Ctrl’ at the same time as selecting slides to highlight more than one. Then click: File > Print > ‘Print Selection’ To print double-sided handouts - Highlight both slides before using ‘Print Selection’. Choose ‘Print on Both Sides’ and ‘Flip on Short Edge’.

3 Use equations of a straight line to defeat the enemy fleet!

4 Draw the boxes for each ship on your grid.
One ship must be in each quadrant. To fire a shot, state the equation of a straight line. A shot hits a box if it goes through or beside it. Only one box is destroyed per shot. If hit, the player must state the quadrant and the ship.

5 If you need to, fold your paper to show
your opponent where the shot/line should be!

6 Only cross off one box per hit.
𝑦=5 Hit, mothership, quadrant ①. Only cross off one box per hit.

7 Only cross off one box per hit.
𝑦=𝑥+4 Hit, mothership, quadrant ①. Only cross off one box per hit.

8 Only cross off one box per hit.

Players fire a laser shot across the galaxy by stating the equation of a straight line. Record your shots in the OPPONENT grid. A shot hits if it goes through or beside a ship’s box. 1 shot = 1 box destroyed The player must state which ship it hit & in which quadrant. A ship is destroyed when all its boxes have been hit.
