1. Take 2 pieces of paper and layer them so that about 5cm of each paper is showing.

Page 1. Glycolysis Define glycolysis: An anaerobic process that breaks down glucose into 2-three carbon molecule (pyruvic acid) Briefly explain: 1. Breaks down glucose 2. NADH production 3. pyruvate production Occurs in the cytoplasm Glucose and ATP are used 2- three carbon molecules (pyruvic acid) and ATP If you are a visual person, add a sketch of the cycle or something that helps you remember the process

Page 2. Krebs Cycle Define Krebs Cycle: The 2-three carbon molecules from glycolysis are further broken down through a series of chemical reactions into CO2 molecules Briefly explain: 1. Pyruvate release CO2 to form 2-carbon compound. Enzyme attaches to it & a 4-carbon to make a 6 carbon. 2. CO2 released giving energy and making NADH 3. 4 carbon is rearranged in many steps to make different 4 carbon to continue cycle. Occurs in mitochondria Uses pyruvic acid from glycolysis Produces ATP (also NADH and FADH2) If you are a visual person, add a sketch of the cycle or something that helps you remember the process

Define ETC: Molecules found in inner membrane of mitochondria/chloroplast. Electrons pass in process where protons build up on 1 side of membrane. Electrons carried by NADH & FADH2 pass through chain Energy transports H+ ions H+ ions diffuse through channel using ATP synthase. Movement produces several ATP molecules from ADP. Occurs in the mitochondria/chloroplast What is used from the Kreb’s cycle and glycolysis? NADH and FADH2 What is produced? Water and ATP

Define fermentation: Process where carbohydrates are broken down in the absence of oxygen. Explain process: It allows glycolysis to continue supplying a cell with ATP in anaerobic conditions. NADH carried electrons are transferred to pyruvate. Lactic acid fermentation occurs in muscles. Pyruvate is converted to lactic acid. In alcoholic fermentation, pyruvate is broken down to ethanol, releasing CO2
