Attaching Clay- two methods
Smoothing (wet to wet clay) Scoring (leather-hard clay, maintains form) Score-water-score Score and slip Score- carve or scratch lines into the surface of the clay; use a cross-hatch pattern when attaching clay. Slip- watered-down clay about the consistency of thick yogurt; acts as a glue when attaching clay.

At least 80% coils Smooth inside Final wet clay height at least 6 inches Base width at least 3 inches 4 sketches filling an 8.5x11 inch paper Greenware deadline: Friday 8/28/15 After sketching, choose one sketch to focus on and show me your sketches to get clay*!

Coil Pot Grading Rubric:
Directions & Techniques Followed project direct. & req. (initials & period, min. height = 6 in., min. width = 3 in) Appropriate techniques (consistent coil size, mostly coil, smooth inside) Composition & Creativity Final sculpture is highly developed, unified and interesting from all angles A high level of creativity of form; engaging composition; took artistic risks Craftsmanship High level of craftsmanship is showcased Surfaces, details, connections/scoring & slipping are done with intention No extra marks, gashes, remnants, or cracks Effort & Participation Student worked every day for the entire period without a reminder Didn’t rush through the project (first one done isn’t the best) Cleaned up adequately and at the appropriate time each day
