Warmup

5-2 Dividing Polynomials
Long division Synthetic Division if appropriate

You can use the skills you developed dividing monomials to extend to a polynomial being divided by a monomial. For example: 6 𝑥 4 𝑦 𝑥 3 𝑦 2 −18 𝑥 2 𝑦 3𝑥𝑦

Dividing Polynomials  You can divide polynomials with long division if The polynomial that is being divided (dividend) is of equal or higher degree than what is doing the dividing (divisor). The terms in both the divisor and dividend must be in descending order of power, and a coefficient of 0 must be included for any term that is missing, including constants. Recall 4th grade long division:

You can use synthetic division to divide a polynomial by a binomial in the form x − r. The terms in both the divisor and dividend must be in descending order of power, and a coefficient of 0 must be included for any term that is missing.
