4. To register , add filters and use the MY NCBI options , you should directly access PubMed using the following address:
From the PubMed display , you will see the MY NCBI/Sign in box. Click on this MY NCBI box to Register.
Note: if you try registering from HINARI/PubMed, HINARI blocks you from returning after working in MY NCBI.

5. To register for My NCBI, click on the Register for an account link
To register for My NCBI, click on the Register for an account link. If are already registered, you can go to Sign into My NCBI.

6. You now have to fill in a short Registration page.
You will need to select a Username and a Password. Make sure this is written down for future reference.
You will also need to set up a Security Question in case you forget your password.

7. Reminder: Make sure you write down your Username and Password.
For the 5 character image, enter this literally including capitals. An address is requested. When the form is complete, click on Register.

All these instructions must be followed explicitly or the registration will be rejected.

8. You will receive a confirmation e-mail from My NCBI
You will receive a confirmation from My NCBI. Go to your account and open the message -
Click on the hypertext link - the url or website address - that is below the ‘to complete your registration… ’ line.
This will to verify the new My NCBI account.

9. After placing the My NCBI website’s address in the search box, you will be sent to this page that verifies your address. You can proceed to Sign in to My NCBI.

10. To access My NCBI, you will need to Sign In with your Username and Password.
Note: This is the process once you have registered and want to return to your My NCBI account.

11. Proceed to sign into My NCBI by entering your Username and Password, clicking on either of the options (Keep me signed in or Remember my username) and the Sign In link.

12. When you are signed into My NCBI, your Username appears in the My NCBI box.
Click on MY NCBI to enter your account.

13. Once in My NCBI, choose the Search Filters option from the left column menu.
We need to choose PubMed as a database from those listed.

14. We have clicked on Frequently Requested Filters
We have clicked on Frequently Requested Filters. Commonly requested filters are listed on this page and you can choose up to15.
When we choose a filter, My NCBI will refresh and apply the filter.
In this example, we will choose the Free Full Text Filter.

15. You now click on Search for Filters
You now click on Search for Filters. In the Search for filters in PubMed Database box, enter HINARI and click on the Search button.

Filters matching the Search will appear below. Click on the box for Add as a filter to apply it to your My NCBI account.

17. Now click on My Filters and your selected filters will be displayed.
Remember that you can use up to five filters.

18. While remaining signed into My NCBI, return to PubMed.

19. Enter hiv AND pregnancy into the search box.

20. We have now completed a search for hiv AND pregnancy
We have now completed a search for hiv AND pregnancy. There are now three results filters – All, Free Full Text, and HINARI. To retain this search, click on the Save Search hypertext link.
Note: These three filters are the default configuration when completing a HINARI/PubMed search.

21. All, Free full text, and HINARI.
My NCBI gives you the option to save or cancel the specific search. In this case, you will save the search.
We have now done a search for hiv and pregnancy. There are now three results tabs –
All, Free full text, and HINARI.
To retain this search, click on the Save Search link.
Note: These three tabs are the default configuration when completing a HINARI/PubMed search.

22. My NCBI has confirmed that this search was saved
My NCBI has confirmed that this search was saved. You now have the option to receive updates. You have the option of receiving or not receiving an update.

23. Proceed to a yes option to receive email updates
Proceed to a yes option to receive updates. In this example, the Tuesday once a week and send text- options have been chosen from the drop down menus. You may choose the options you prefer.

24. In this example, the Abstract option for Report Format has been chosen

25. Here, the 5 items option for the Number of Items option has been chosen from the drop down menu. Again, you may choose the option you prefer.

26. When you enter My Saved Data, you can see a list of the saved searches - ‘hiv and pregnancy’ and ‘malaria and bednets’ in this example.
From this page, you can re-run a search by clicking on the title of the search. You also have the option to Delete PubMed Searches.

27. We will discuss one final option called Collections – MY NCBI
We will discuss one final option called Collections – MY NCBI. While MY NCBI is active, we have completed a PubMed search for diabetes AND developing countries. This search has resulted in 1232 citations that are in the Summary display.

We have checked the boxes in the first five citations from this search. In the Send to drop down menu, we have activated Collections and will click on Add to Collections .
Note: in the Display Settings menu, you may change the Summary display to any that you prefer.

29. In the MY NCBI Collections page, you can note that 5 items from PubMed have been transferred. We have clicked on the Create new collection button and, in the Enter a name for your collection box, written diabetes and dev ctries. To save this collection, we will click on the Save button.

31. On the Collections page, the saved search and citiations are listed.
In the Actions icons, there are the Remove, edit setting, view in Pubmed options. In the Sort by icons, there are Sort by date, sort by author, sort by title options.
