2. BIOGRAPHY
Born circa 428 B.C.E., ancient Greek philosopher Plato was a student of Socrates and a teacher of Aristotle. His writings explored justice, beauty and equality, and also contained discussions in aesthetics, political philosophy, theology, cosmology, epistemology and the philosophy of language. Plato founded the Academy in Athens, one of the first institutions of higher learning in the Western world. He died in Athens circa 348 B.C.E.

4. Plato’s Academy
The Academy was founded in Athens around 387 BC by Plato after his first trip ( 398 – 390 BC ) in Sicily. It was in a grove suburb of Athens . The Academia was dedicated to Athenian hero Academus . The site was considered holy because Theseus had hidden Helen there, and out of respect for the long tradition and it’s identification with the Dioscuri , the Spartans did not destroy it when they invaded in 413 BC in Attica.

5. Allegory of the cave or Plato’s cave
The allegory of the cave , or Plato’s cave was presented by the Greek philosopher Plato in his work the republic to compare the effect of education and the lack of it on our nature – it’s written as a dialogue between Plato’s brother , and his mentor Socrates. The allegory is presented after the analogy of the sun and the analogy of the divided line.
