3. A Bit of Background
Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) Mitigation Clearinghouse Program
Developed to help match those with potential mitigation sites with those in need of mitigation areas
Previously worked in Ohio as a consultant looking for mitigation sites, then as a watershed coordinator with plenty of restoration work to be done and little money
Familiar with the system Ohio EPA had in place
Talked to those who had designed the Mitigation Clearinghouse
Potential mitigation would complete a form, entered by OEPA staff into database
Only searchable by watershed, given a list and then select a individual one for more details

As sites are added, IDEM Water Quality Staff will contact the person submitting the potential mitigation and verify the information
Verified and non-verified data available
User inputs will be viewable either way, but the note that the data is not yet verified can alert the user to the fact that is may not be a viable location
GIS and database provides a conduit for State employees, environmental consultants and public contact
The combination of using GIS with the ability to add information allows for a single location for people to propose mitigation areas as well as a search engine for those looking for places to complete mitigation projects
