1 Voter Engagement Project Presented by Hortencia Cabral

2 Goals: Register new voters
Encourage current voters to be ready for 2018 Inform our community that our current congressman is doing a poor job of representing our district and that new and fresh leadership is needed

3 What I received to launch my engagement project:
Precinct voter list (my neighborhood only) Precinct map Voter log sheet How to register voter rules Sample script to use as a reference when talking to people

4 Items I got on my own to launch my engagement project:
Voter registration forms (please visit the Kern Dem office on Truxtun Ave.) I modified my canvass to leave a door hanger at every home when the voter did not answer.

9 If you get lucky and sign up a new voter, make sure you follow the notes outlined on your “How to register voters” sheet (see your handouts). Make sure to record them on your voter log. We would like to remind them to vote.

11 Linda discussing the 2016 voter engagement project and the results

12 How do you sing up?

13 How to be successful? Buy a minimum of two clipboards and three blue or black pens Be prepared! Have voter registration forms, voter roll reports, logs sheets and hangers (if applicable) ready to go. Take a script with you if necessary.

14 How to be successful? Organize your clip boards:

15 How to be successful? Don’t be afraid to talk about your personal experiences and why you are so passionate about talking to our community. Personal stories help the voter connect and listen to you more seriously. Be prepared to follow up with voters. Tell them you would like to visit them or call them at a later date to encourage or help them to vote.

16 Empower yourself! Team up with another person in today’s meeting and commit yourself to canvass at least once a week in your precinct. Keep your voter log records organized and use excel if necessary as we will eventually ask for you to share your data with us down the road for further outreach purposes. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. I will canvass with you or find a fellow team member to help you out so that you are comfortable and off to a successful launch.

17 STAY TUNED!!! Empower yourself!
Be ready for 2018 elections! Ideally, your group of voters should be contacted at least three times next year to make sure they get out and vote. We will keep you informed and guide you as to when and how you should reach out to your precinct group. Also be aware that we may be hosting events that will be useful in nurturing the contacts you made to further empower, encourage and excite voters about change in our community. STAY TUNED!!!
