The electron transport chain
The electron transport chain On the inner membrane of the mitochondria, electrons from NADH and FADH2 pass through the electron transport chain to oxygen which then undergoes a reduction reaction, producing water. The chain comprises five complexes and a series of electron transporters and electrons are passed from donors to acceptors down the chain, releasing energy which is utilised to generate a proton gradient across the mitochondrial membrane (image reproduced from Wikimedia Commons: Public Domain).
