Specific up-regulation and down-regulation of immunomodulatory genes in human breast and colorectal cancers. Immunomodulatory genes were grouped by expressing cell type to determine whether increased gene expression was attributable to increases in cell number (consistent increase or decrease across all cell markers) or specific up-regulation or down-regulation of gene expression (singular increase or decrease in specific cell markers above or below baseline expression of other markers of the cell population). Solid black arrows, specifically up-regulated immunoinhibitory molecules; open arrows, specifically down-regulated immunostimulatory molecules.
