Mastery Objective: You will be able to write a personal & literary response to your independent reading text. What is the difference between a personal and literary response? Turn to a partner and share your thoughts.

3 What was your reaction to the story?
Mastery Objective: You will be able to write a personal & literary response to your independent reading text. Personal Response Literary Response What was your reaction to the story? What strategies did the author use? Where you bored or interested while you read? Did the author make moves in their writing that surprised you? What were they? If not, were there missed opportunities? Did you like the author’s tone of voice? Do you feel the author is someone you would like to be friends with? Were there moments of description or dialogue that stood out to you for being memorable in any way? If not, what would you have liked to hear more about?

Mastery Objective: You will be able to write a personal & literary response to your independent reading text. Checking in What are we doing? Why are we doing it? Where are we going? Today, we are reading and developing a personal response, and a literary response. We need to deepen and expand our responses to what we are reading. We are going to write research/analysis papers that combine a personal response with a literary response.

5 Mastery Objective: You will be able to write a personal & literary response to your independent reading text. By the end of class today, you should have at least three quotes from the text in your dialogic journal. “Dialogic Journal” Quote from the text with page number Your response “……………………….” (author, page number). What thoughts went through your mind? What questions are you wondering about at this point? What literary strategies do you see the author using? What do you like/dislike about what you are reading?
