5 SCHOOL MISSION At North Kalgoorlie Primary School our mission is to provide engaging and challenging educational experiences that target all students. Our whole school coordinated approach to learning will ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed, regardless of background, gender, culture or ability. A safe environment, where expectations and boundaries are clear and consistent, will underpin the learning environment and four core values. We will work together to develop innovative strategies and programs that respond to the needs of our students and community because we believe EVERY CHILD MATTERS.

Number & Algebra: Count to 20 (ACMNA001) Count collections to 10 (ACMNA002) Recognise, name and write numerals to 10 (ACMN002) Subitise small collections- random and standard (ACMNA003) Compare collections (ACMNA289) Identify coins and understand the purpose of money Measurement & Geometry: Know and identify the days of the week (ACMMG007) Connect days of the week to familiar events (ACMMG008)

Modelling reading & viewing/writing/speaking & listening behaviours Consolidate syllables and rhyming Oral narrative – sequencing pictures, news telling etc 1-5 letters…as per Letters and sounds program. Expectations Term 1 Kindergarten Numeracy Number & Algebra: Recite numbers in order to 5 Recognise numerals to 5 Subitise small collections up to 4 Subitise standard patterns on a dice Compare collection (more, less, same, not same) Copy and create simple 2 part patterns Measurement & Geometry: Name, sort and match basic 2D shapes

15 Pre-Primary Homework Home readers
Begins the start of term 2 (approximately week 2/3). Books will be levelled Assist your child to read through sounding out, rereading, hinting. This should be a time of enjoyment not punishment, for you or your child. Sight Words Sight words will also be given in term 2 to those children who are ready for them.

16 Parents As Partners Two Way Partnership You are teachers too!
Things that you can do to help your child’s education: Attendance : They have to be at school to learn. Less than 90% is considered at Educational Risk On time : This is critical during our literacy blocks in the morning. The doors will open at 8:35am. Sight words: 10 minutes each night will go a long way in learning these. Home Reading :Beginning term 2, this is essential and should happen daily! Remember to encourage ‘reading for fun!’ See us regarding any issues A.S.A.P Please ensure contact details up to date.

17 Reading At Home In order to promote reading to children at home, the Early Childhood team have put together boxes of books which you can borrow to read to your children. There are questions within the book to assist you in building the comprehension skills of your child. You may borrow these books each morning simply record when you return a book and sign out a new book.
