Key stage 2 Assessments National Curriculum tests (SATs) are carried out at the end of Year 2 and 6. All children in Year 6 sit them during the same week. The tests are externally marked by trained markers Tests provide a standard ‘snapshot’ of attainment on what they can do on one day in May. Used in conjunction with teacher assessment. The 3 core subjects. It is an indicator of how children are doing, but, like a driving test some children surpass themselves, others may not perform as well as expected.

17 How to support your child with Reading
Read with your child: get your child to re aloud to you, and then ask them questions such as the examples given above. Read aloud to your child whilst your child follows the text: listening is an important part of reading; it will help your child learn the importance of punctuation and reading with expression. Comprehension Activities– Activities will be uploaded to the school website.

18 Structure of the Maths Test
Secure use of written methods will be essential

21 How to support your child in maths.
Revise skills in the mental maths booklets. Knowing their timetables – The children should have instant recall of tables facts to 12x12. If they know these they should continue to be tested/practise related facts e.g. division, decimals, multiples of 10. Times tables rockstars Formal method for the four operations practice: it is important child can complete methods accurately. Conversion between units, telling the time and associated time facts.

22 Writing Assessments There is no written ‘test’ as such.
Writing judgements are based on teacher assessment only but may be moderated by local authority representatives. Throughout the year we have been, and will continue to, assess the children’s writing. This continues until the end of the year. Assessment criteria has changed for 2018 to put more emphasis on composition and effect. When working talk to children about how, why choosing methods in maths and science. In literacy how do children express understanding, listen and take account of others opinions, argue own ideas.
