Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the state-of-the-art Mahatma Mandir (Dandi Kutir), a museum on the life and works of Mahatma Gandhi in Gujarat's capital of Gandhinagar. The complex site is spacious enough to handle swift movement of up to people. The convention hall has seating capacity of 5000 seats undivided with VIP viewing gallerias. Seven hi-tech conference halls and a modern meeting room. Three Exhibition halls with column free structure. The project is a sustainable structure of which the planning and design is done as per green construction technology. Curved walls for the entire Museum were made using Gyproc Fireline, Duraline, Plain Boards and Metal Framing system Partition walls were made using Fireline & Duraline plasterboard to achieve Fire performace & high level of Impact resistance. Ceilings for the entire project were made using Plain Boards and metal system. Sample text (high level project pitch) STRANDBADKIRCHBICHL is a visionary design project involving the construction of a new office building in a remote mountain region of Austria, with a design which reflected the crashing waves coming in from the nearby beach. Great technical skill and knowledge of interior systems was required in order to optimize lighting, acoustics and sound absorption within a very complex curved shaped structure which would not naturally provide this level of performance. This presentation will also be used on the book and on the website to present your project.

Mahatma Mandir Museum was completed in a record time of 5 months.
The momentous project was conceptualized by the Government of Gujarat and executed by Shapoorji Pallonji Engineering & Construction (SPE&C) on design & build basis. Gyproc’s association with SPE&C has given true life to a fine concept and a deep touch of aesthetics, art and technology benefits It is a unique architectural and experiential edifice with three key elements: An immersive multimedia museum housed in the Salt Mound christened “Dandi Kutir”, The conical concrete shell symbolic of the Salt Satyagraha of 1930 A cable-stayed bridge inspired by the Charkha crowned by a windmill The Gandhi Garden commemorating Gandhiji’s life through 79 iconic sculptures. All slabs in the salt mound were casted in 20 days. Extensive research was done to pick unique and best fitting material for every part of the building. 8 multimedia rooms with hardware and software synchronization accomplished in flat 15 days time. For making Sharp curvature FR, DL & PL boards ranging from 50mm to 200mm were cut on one side and also wetting with water For making Greater radius curves boards were bent by wetting the back side of board and applying load .

Key challenges and Complexities
Almost 85% of partition wall of both 123 mm & 200 mm are in curvature. Only 15% partitions are straight. Contractor team working have not executed any such curved partition in their past history. Time bound project delivery within 5 months as the pressure of Vibrant Gujarat Summit was there. Bending of 15 mm fire line board & 13 mm Duraline board to a minimum radius of 800 mm & 300 mm respectively. Deciding stud spacing for radius of all types lesser than the standards of drywall. Altogether approx. more than 3200 Sq. Mtr. of partition to be executed including 800 Sq. Mtr. of Twin frame partition. Sharp curvatures of partition ranging from 300mm to 30Mtr. radius in 123mm partition wall and 800mm & 1000mm radius in 200mm twin frame partition.

Key Achievements For making curvature we had cut 2 flanges of Flooring & Ceiling Channel with cutting gaps ranging from 2 feet to mere 50 mm. Studs spacing's right from 610 mm c/c to mm c/c at sharp curvatures. For making Sharp curvature we have cut one side of Fire Resistant Boards, Duraline Boards & Plain Boards ranging from 50 mm to 200 mm, and also wetting with water for better & smooth Curvature. For making Greater radius curves boards were bent by wetting back side of board and by applying load.
