Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for youth ages 15–24, and for  college-age youth (18–22). Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death for youth ages 10–14. Suicide is PREVENTABLE. No one has to die by suicide. By being a good friend, you can help take some of the "silence" away  from the "silent epidemic" of youth suicide by learning about the problem and  making a plan to help your friends who may be struggling.

If you are concerned about a friend, DO NOT keep it to yourself! Remember, an angry friend is better than a dead friend!  Ask, listen, tell, if the threat is immediate do not leave the person alone! Take your friend to a trusted adult. If they don’t take it seriously, find another adult. Be a good listener and doer. You are not a pro but you can help get them to a professional. Many teens who attempt suicide tell someone before they try. A. When someone talks about suicide, that is the moment to intervene! B. With each suicide attempt, the risk of death increases.
