1 Buehler Terms These are some terms you will be using on the trip! Write the definitions in your Training Log.

2 Airlock – a special doorway in the spacecraft that allows astronauts to enter and exit without exposing the inside of the spacecraft to the vacuum of space. Controller – Refers to a student working in Mission Control (note: for this mission, we are calling it Mars Control because they are on Mars.) Data Log – A series of data tables used in Mars Control to record data. Flight Director – The Commander working in Mars Control; this is a Buehler staff person. Flight Manual – A binder containing step-by-step directions to be followed while working in Mars Control. Image – A picture that can be sent from Mars Control to the spacecraft to assist the astronauts in their tasks.

3 Meteoroid – any small object traveling through space
Micrometeoroid – an extremely small meteoroid, usually the size of a grain of dust Mission Commander – the Commander working with the crew in the spacecraft (a Buehler staff member) Mission Status – a television monitor which shows what task each team is working on and how much time is left in the mission. Monitor – a screen that shows mission activity

4 Priority – something that is very important; it should come first!
Simulation – acting out a space mission Start Code – a number entered into the computer system when a crewperson on the spacecraft begins a new task. Task Cards – step-by-step directions for each task; used on spacecraft.

5 A couple more – you don’t need to write them down, but FYI:
Mars Control – in this simulation, Mission Control is on the Mars Base at Chryse Station, so we are calling them Mars Control Mars Transport Vehicle (MTV) – this is what we are calling the spacecraft.
