Presentation on theme: "3.1 Parallel Lines and Transversals"— Presentation transcript:

1 3.1 Parallel Lines and Transversals
What you’ll learn: To identify the relationships between 2 lines or 2 planes. To name angles formed by a pair of lines and a transversal

2 Parallel Lines Parallel Lines – lines in the same plane that do not intersect. Symbol  written in statements or matching arrows written on a figure. AB  XY Skew lines – lines in different planes that do not intersect.

3 Transversal and the angles they create
A transversal is any line that intersects two more lines in a plane at different points. Interior angles – angles 3, 4, 5, 6 Exterior angles – angles 1, 2, 3, 4 Corresponding angles – 1&5, 2&6, 3&7, 4&8 Alternate interior – angles 3&6, 4&5 Alternate exterior – angles 1&8, 2&7 Consecutive interior – angles 3&5, 4&6 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

4 Use the figure to answer the following questions.
B C D E F G H Name all segments parallel to AD Name all segments skew to HG. Name all planes intersecting plane AEH.

5 Use the figure to answer the following questions
Identify the pairs of lines to which each given line is a transversal. Line
