2 Kinds of Support Materials
Examples – Illustrate describe or represent things. Their purpose is to aid understanding by making ideas, items, or events more concrete and to clarify and amplify meaning. Brief examples – illustrates only one point and usually provide only one example Extended examples – offer multifaceted illustrations of an event or idea, reiterating the point. First you make a statement about the event or idea usually with common knowledge, and then you give examples to support the point Hypothetical Examples- examples of what would happen if a certain event were to take place.

3 Kinds of Support Materials
Narratives – tell a short story about something that has happened to someone you know or heard about or about yourself. The best one would be the ones that the audience has not heard and is relevant to the speech Testimony – is firsthand information from people who have witnessed or experienced an event. Expert testimony- from professionals who have training in evaluating or reporting on certain topics. Lay testimony – non-professionals who witness or experience an event.

Facts and Statistics Facts – represent documented occurrence, including actual events, dates, time and people involved. Statistics – is summarized data that measure the size or magnitude or something, it demonstrate trends or show relationship Descriptive Inferential
