IMMA’s proposal for China’s proposal
on type2 test condition of EPPR (GTR2 B3) 16 Oct.2017

TypeⅡ condition GTR 2 B3 3.6 The type II emission test shall be conducted immediately after the type I emission test. In any event, the engine shall be warmed up until all coolant and lubricant temperatures and lubricant pressure have reached equilibrium at operational levels. TMTC’s proposals The type II emission test shall be conducted immediately after the type I emission test. In any event, if Type-II test is required to be conducted independent of Type-I test , the engine shall be warmed up until all coolant or lubricant temperatures have reached at least 70 °C. IMMA’s proposals Policy:Delete the condition from the GTR when Type II test is performed independently. Justification The relationship between oil temperature and catalyst temperature was investigated in one vehicle. When leaving at idle, the oil temperature becomes 70 degrees Celsius, but the catalyst temperature increased only 160 degrees Celsius, which is NOT the activation temperature. (next page) Since the catalyst does not reach the activation temperature, it is considered that exhaust gas can not be sufficiently purified under this condition. Therefore, it is considered that exhaust gas at idle can not be measured properly. This GTR is a technical standard at the time of certification, and it is better to prescribe it according to the relevant regulation when Type II is carried out independently (roadworthiness etc.).
