UCanGo2 is an initiative designed to provide information about planning, preparing and paying for college. Workbooks and flyers are provided to students and parents and can be downloaded directly from our college access website, UCanGo2.org.

High School Student Workbook
Why Go to College? What Do I Want to Be? How Do I Get There? Where Do I Go? How Do I Pay For It? The UCanGo2 High School Student Workbook covers five main areas of college planning. This PowerPoint covers the second section, ‘What Do I Want to Be?’. This section examines the differences between a career and a job. It encourages you to evaluate your interests, hobbies and skills. It helps you create a career plan based on your talents. It highlights the most popular jobs in Oklahoma.

Job vs. Career Job A regular activity performed in exchange for payment that may be a short-term position. Career A long-term profession that typically requires specialized training. VS. Working at a fast-food restaurant part-time while you’re in school is a job. Restaurant management is a career. Mowing lawns in the summer is a job. Owning a lawn care business is a career.

Investigate Your Interests
Visit OKcollegestart.org for information about career exploration, Oklahoma colleges, interview tips and much more. OKcollegestart.org has many career assessments that your students can take. After students take their assessments, they will be able to see some careers that match their interests. Visit Okcollegestart.org’s Career Planning section to help your students get started.

Investigate Your Interests
The Career Clusters provides a description of career categories and career options that may interest you. The Career Clusters page pairs with a Career Interest Survey that can be found on UCanGo2.org. Students can also use this survey to find more careers that may be of interest to them.

Develop a Career Plan Your Career Plan should include: A specific goal
The training required A list of skills needed Work and activities to help you gain experience A plan of action for accomplishing your goal The UCanGo2 High School Student Workbook offers a sample career plan for you. There’s also a blank form for you to fill out with your future career plans.
