2 What is Mathematical Induction?
Mathematical Induction is a method of proof which has three very specific steps which have to be followed carefully. All working must be shown. 1) Verify that the statement is true for a special case (normally n=1) 2) Assume that the statement is true for some integer (n=k) and then prove that it must be true for n=k+1 3) Hence if it is true for n=1, it must be true for n=2; if it true for n=2 it must be true for n=3 and so on. Hence it is true for all natural numbers.
