Parking Leases for Employees
Parking, Transportation and Services Parking Leases for Employees Apply online for a lease, or contact the Parking Services Office at (412) When you apply for a permit, you may select up to three (3) different parking facilities as possible choices. You will be added to the waitlists Staff use automatic pre-tax, payroll deductions Indoor garages: $92/month Outdoor lots: $85/month Electric vehicles: $100/month Motorcycle permit $25/term Various lots and garages on campus Prices are subject to change The Parking Office sells permits for faculty and staff. You can apply online or call the office to apply. When you apply, you will be added to a waitlist. Parking is probably the most challenging thing you will face in Oakland. It is a very busy area, with many people and limited parking. The shortest waitlist is about 2 years, so we highly suggest exploring other options for your commute. If you do decide to add yourself to the waitlists, you will be able to add yourself to the waitlists for three different locations. The important thing to remember about the waitlists is that your choices are ranked. First - This should be the lot that you would want to park in that is closest to your work or most convenient for you. Upon receiving this permit, you will be deleted from your Second and Third Choice on the waitlist. Second - This should be the lot that you would want to park in that is second closest to your work or second most convenient for you. You may have to balance availability verses closeness. Upon receiving this permit, your third choice will be deleted from the waitlist. Third - This should be the lot that you would want to park in with the shortest time. You may have to balance availability verses closeness. You will stay on the waitlist for your first and second choices once you are offered a permit. On our website we have the waitlist application and information about the lots you can select from. If you have questions about what you should choose for your waitlist options based on your office location, please give us a call. So, let’s say you are finally offered a waitlist choice. The permit cost will be pre-tax, payroll deducted. For indoor garages this will be $92/month. For outdoor lots it is $85/month. We also have permits for plug-in electric vehicles. These are $100/month and allow you to park in three locations Posvar garage (A) Soldiers and Sailors Garage (SO), and O’Hara garage (OH). You will have a designated home garage but are permitted to move to the other two garages when space is available. We have little to no waitlist for our EV permits. If you have a plug-in electric vehicle or are in the market for a new vehicle, this may be an excellent option for you! There are also some off-campus lots where we sell permits. If you are working at an off-campus location and have questions about availability and rates for those please call the office directly.

University Permit Parking
You must have a University parking permit to park in any University owned lot or garage. Pitt’s parking regulations are in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays. University Parking regulations are enforced by the Parking Enforcement Assistants (PEA’S) in the Department of Parking, Transportation & Services and the University of Pittsburgh Police Department. The University’s enforcement personnel have the authority to cite, tow, and/or immobilize vehicles that are in violation of parking regulations on University property. If you are parked in any University owned lot or garage without a permit, you will be subject to receive a citation.

Park-n-Ride Facilities
Parking, Transportation and Services Park-n-Ride Facilities Park-n-Ride facilities are located throughout the region. There are places you can meet your bus, your carpool or vanpool buddies (check in advance for bus arrival times or any parking restrictions). Regional listing available: There are also park and ride facilities for Port Authority and most of the regional transit providers. These are as simple as they sound, you park your car and ride on the bus or T. The nice thing about these is that most park and rides have free parking. For the Port Authority park and rides, you can park for free (with the exception of the 3 locations closest to Downtown) and then ride into town fare-free with your Pitt ID. If you have a long drive, you could drive most of the distance and then use the park and ride to avoid expensive parking in town. If you are carpooling, the park and rides can also be an ideal place to meet a carpool buddy in a central location. If you are thinking about using these, they are a pretty popular option so I would suggest arriving about minutes early on your first try to gauge how busy the lots might be.

Carpooling Carpooling is two or more people sharing their ride to campus in one of their personal vehicles. There are two types of carpool registration. The first is directly through the University Parking Services Office and the second is through CommuteInfo. Parking Office: Pitt carpool members must commute together at least 3 days a week, and at least one member of the carpool must be a permit holder with the Parking Services Office. CommuteInfo: To register as a carpool, you need to be commuting together at least 2 days a week. As a carpooler you receive the following Benefits: Permit Discounts Free ride matching services Pre-Tax Payroll Deduction Temporary permits for when you need to drive separately (2 per semester) plus 2 temporary permits per semester for each member in the carpool.. Emergency Ride Home Reimbursement Program - For example, if you are a rider in a carpool and riding in someone else’s car and you have a family emergency and need to leave in the middle of the day. You would arrange your ride home – bus, Uber, Lyft, etc., - obtain a receipt or a bank statement, and submit to CommuteInfo. CommuteInfo will reimburse you up to $100 a year or 4 times a year, whichever limit you reach first. To learn more about carpooling, or call the Parking Services Office at

Vanpooling CommuteInfo vanpool groups
Parking, Transportation and Services Vanpooling CommuteInfo vanpool groups traveling to Oakland, start their commutes from many different geographic locations. Vanpools are Groups of 6-15 people. Registered vanpoolers receive the following benefits: Six to fifteen people Free van parking for registered vanpools Free ride matching services Pre-Tax Payroll Deduction Temporary permits for when you need to drive separately (2 per semester) Emergency Ride Home Reimbursement Program To join a vanpool or take a free trial ride, visit or call Let’s transition to vanpools. Vanpools are groups of 6-15 people commuting together in a leased CommuteInfo van. Usually, these folks are commuting from outside of Allegheny County, often having well over an hour drive ahead of them. Many people, like Kim, vanpool because they want to avoid wear on their vehicle, want to share the responsibility of driving, or just want some company for their long commute! Vanpools receive the same benefits as carpools, with the addition of free campus parking for all CommuteInfo vanpools. Vanpoolers can also set aside money pre-tax to pay for the cost of leasing the van. Vanpoolers split the cost of the van rental between them. Some vanpools do an even cost split each month, others might alternate who pays each month – it is completely up to the vanpool group on how costs are shared. So you are paying for the van, but not paying to park. If you are interested in finding a vanpool, you can apply with CommuteInfo’s ridematching services to see if there is a vanpool near you. Or, if you are curious what a vanpool is like, you can contact CommuteInfo and they can include you in a free trial ride of the van.

Digital Bike Map Learn more about bicycling on campus and view maps of bicycling amenities here: We have a lot of bicyclists on campus – both students and employees. We do have public bike parking at almost every building on campus. Some of these are covered, under awnings or in garages. We have two public and free fix-it stations on campus with an air pump and tools available where you can do simple repairs such as tightening your brakes or filling up air in a tire. In addition, we also have bike lockers available to rent. These are secure metal boxes – you get a key, and you can fit your entire bike and helmet, riding shoes, accessories inside the locker. This is a nice option if you commute by bike regularly and are looking for something a little more secure than a public rack. We are coming out with a digital bike map that will show all of the bike resources. This map will soon be accessible on our bicycling webpage linked on this slide. Port Authority: By Bus, “T” and Incline
Parking, Transportation and Services Port Authority: By Bus, “T” and Incline Use your valid Pitt ID to pay for your ride. There are many apps you can use to help you get around, including Google Maps. Transit App and Transit Stop have real time GPS information. Port Authority has a real time GPS. Visit to learn more about available routes and services. One of our most popular benefits – and my personal favorite – is the Pitt ID agreement we have with Port Authority of Allegheny County. With this agreement, you are able to tap your Pitt ID and ride fare-free on any of the Port Authority routes, including the buses, light rail (called the T in Pittsburgh), and the inclines that go up Mt. Washington. If you would like to find which routes serve your area, Port Authority has route information on their website. Honestly, though, for directions I primarily use the Google Maps directions feature. You can enter in your home and destination, and then choose the transit option. Google will show walking directions to the bus stop, the bus number, the stop you need to get off at, and walking directions to your destination. Port Authority buses also have real time GPS, and there are several apps out there that integrate with it. When you are at a bus stop, you can look at see how long until the bus arrives and where the bus is in real time. That way, you know how long you have to wait. This is especially helpful if you need to choose between two buses or need to figure out if you should hurry up to catch the bus. It’s saved me multiple times!
