2
Review List the 7 steps of the scientific process
You don’t need to write these down, but find them in your notebook Observation Question Hypothesis Design Test Conclusion communicate Review

Summarize the video in 3+ Complete sentences.
Explain the importance of precise procedures. NBpg. 16 Middle Slide 3 of 8

No talking, No collaborating, No looking at others interpretation
NBpg. 16 Bottom Slide 4 of 8 No talking, No collaborating, No looking at others interpretation Directions #1: Place toothpicks in the middle to make an X Add extensions, but not touching Place toothpicks in between the extensions Draw the design on the bottom left section on NBpg. 16

NBpg. 16 Bottom Slide 5 of 8 Directions #2: Place 2 toothpicks overlapping perpendicular in the middle of the design area. Add 1 toothpick extended from each arm of the center ‘X’ that is 2cm away from tip to tip Conduct 4 times to use remaining toothpicks: Place 1 toothpick perpendicular midway on the extension toothpicks in step 2 Draw the design on the bottom right section on NBpg. 16

Successful ideas are those that withstand repeated challenges.
READ ONLY Slide 6 of 8 Successful ideas are those that withstand repeated challenges. Scientific achievements are of little value unless they are shared with others. Researchers needed to explain their experiments and their ideas so that others can attempt to replicate their results. Thus, clear and precise communication is essential to science. This activity reveals the importance of accuracy, precision, and clarity in communication.

Using all 10 toothpicks, create a design
NBpg. 17 Slide 7 of 8 Procedure Writing Instructions: Constructive Criticism 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Expectation: Reality: Individually Using all 10 toothpicks, create a design (the more complicated, the better) Write down step by step instructions on building your toothpick design Do 5 steps No longer than the space allotted Design specifications: Use all 10 toothpicks Design cannot be too simplistic Design needs to fit in a 30x30cm2 area On a Post-It, Draw the expectation of your design and don’t show other students
11
You will get a random notebook
Read the procedures and create the toothpick design Draw your outcome on the reality section on NBpg. 17 Re-read and review the procedure Give construction criticism (did well and can do better) suggest edits to the instructions that would’ve been helpful, like word or phrase edits/rewrites What would you have done differently and why How confident are you that the drawing matches the expectation drawing Find the Expectation post-it and compare your design Return Notebook when Mrs. Hayes says so.
