Effect of bFGF on ultrastructure of RD-ES cells. Treatment of Ewing’s sarcoma cells with bFGF (20 ng/ml)-induced cell death. The ultrastructure of cells treated with bFGF showed evidence of both necrosis and apoptosis (a). The apoptotic cell number increased with increased exposure time to bFGF (b). In cultures exposed to bFGF for 4 days, it was not possible to score the apoptotic and necrotic cell number, the culture consisting largely of cell debris (results not shown). Counts are shown for approximately 1000 cells.
