Reality: Okay, some is. But more to it. It’s an art It’s a science

6 Assigning 101 Give the game the referees it needs
That can vary Give the referees the games they need Within limits of game and referee availability But … turnbacks, rainouts, rescheduled games We DO have to fill the games Flexibility is appreciated Assignors are “referees of last resort”

7 Advancement and development
Work with more experienced officials Attempt to provide more mentorship All-female crews All-youth crews We pass names along to travel assignors We’re always scouting for high school refs

10 Rec game basics It’s younger kids … 75% are U-12 or below
50% are one-referee games 25% are two-referee games 25% are three-referee games Number of games is decreasing

5 a side / 8 on roster / 1-2 coaches Fredericksburg rec – novice (U-8) 6 a side / 10 on roster / 2 coaches Stafford rec – U-10 7 a side / 10 on roster / 1-2 coaches Spotsylvania rec – peewee/mustang (U-8) 11 a side / on roster / 3-4 coaches

13 Assigning 101 Get some games! Not ready or you become unavailable?
Go to your Arbiter main page Mark yourself “ready to be assigned” Please add your address Please list at least one phone number Not ready or you become unavailable? Uncheck the “ready to be assigned” box

14 Review your Arbiter calendar
Can’t work? Block the whole day Hours limited? Block part of the day Schedule changed? Update calendar Games run through early November When in doubt, block – watch for open games

15 Assigning 101 Block what you can block TODAY, then fill in
Game and practice schedules Other work responsibilities School functions SAT test dates!!! August 24 October 5 November 2

16 Assigning 101 Check Arbiter every day
Watch for new assignments Watch for changes in assignments Watch for changes in date/time/location Watch for “open game” postings/ Listed on Arbiter main page

17 Assigning 101 Arbiter sends e-mail, but not 100% reliable
Game appears on your schedule Game has an “accept by” date No action? No game! Arbiter removes it Check accept or decline … then click “submit”

18 Turning back an assignment
Things happen Cannot be done on Arbiter OK if more than 24 hours before game Call or text if it’s less than 24 hours Be sure you get a response! You are NOT expected to find a replacement

19 Game day emergency For rec games – call/text in this order:
David Brandao – Barbara Brandao – Greg Hauck – Be sure you get a response! Call a partner if you’re running late

20 Game reporting Arbiter report, please, on day of game
Simple reports can be done on your phone Cards? Injuries? Incidents? Details, please! No cards/incidents? Keep comment box blank PLEASE do not change game status!!! Conduct issues regarding coaches, spectators Separate may be required Even if no card is issued, reports are helpful
