2 Introduction My animal is a river otter.
I’ve learned some interesting facts about the playful, nocturnal mammals. This animal is being hunted for its fur and pelt.

3 What does a river otter look like?
Its body is covered with brown fur. The furry animal has long whiskers. Their tail can be 12 to 18 inches long! Their webbed feet help are helpful for walking on land.

4 Where do river otters live at and in?
The river otter lives in North America. It lives in marshes, lakes, and estuary (wet area) environments. They also live in abandoned beaver dams. River otters live in 2/3 of Ohio’s counties.

5 What does a river otter eat?
The river otter is a carnivore. It eats birds, small rodents, frogs, and craps. The also eat oysters, fish, amphibians, turtles, and crayfish. It uses its claws and teeth to grasp its prey.

6 What is the river otters population?
River otters are being hunted for their fur and pelt. No one knows the river otter population, though. River otters are rare so no one knows. It has been estimated 100,000. Its illegal to hunt in 20+ states.
