3 Thomas Alva Edison Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847, in Ohio, United States. Since child received a strict upbringing. He suffered from mental retardation and there used to be a great student. Besides inventing the light bulb, was the creator of the telegraph and duplex telegraphy broadband. He was also the author discovered the electron emission from metals incandescent bulb would generate knowledge that diode. On October 21, 1879, was created the incandescent light bulb. The invention is authored by the American Thomas Edison. The invention was based on the need to use a small domestic lamp to replace light from the gas flame. In December 1879, Thomas Edison made the first public demonstration of the lamp after installation of a complete system of energy in Menlo Park laboratory. Thomas Edison was also responsible for the invention of the phonograph and the movie camera in his whole life had 1093 patents.

4 The lamp design came from a carbon filament
The lamp design came from a carbon filament. Until 1879, the idea of power existed, but was not used in people's homes. The invention led lamp using electricity for domestic area and gradually began to replace the gas lamps. Initially, the lighting grids were limited and concentrated in urban centers, but it was enough to do something economically viable electricity in everyday life, in the communications and metallurgy. In developing the light bulb, one of the main challenges was to detect an Edison filament incandescent remained during the transmission of electric current. He decided to cover the filament with a glass bulb to isolate oxygen. Completes the invention using carbonized cotton, which allowed the light for more than 40 hours straight. Previously, attempted to use carbon filament that had poor durability, experienced use alloys and even bamboo.

5 Nowadays, the filaments of incandescent lamps are made of tungsten, a metal that melts only at a temperature of 3422 ° C. For the filament not to ignite and burn if not, in the manufacturing process, remove all bulbs present in atmospheric air, being replaced by nitrogen, argon and krypton.
