1 Restoration of the Name
L T S Restoration of the Name Psalm 68:4 October 1, 2011 1 1 1

2 What’s in a Name? I had been working hard all day and was exhausted. Family and job issues were wearing me down and life seemed hopeless to the point of despair. As I was driving home I saw a sign in the neighborhood:

3 What’s in a Name? I called. Two hours later a Mexican man showed up and began mowing my lawn.

4 Why has the Name Gone Away?
According to Jewish Orthodox tradition, the Sacred Name is not to be uttered and accordingly, the form "G-d " is used in writing or printing In place of pronouncing the Sacred Name in prayer, worship and discussion, the form "Adonai" (the Hebrew for 'Lord') is used. You may also hear the term HaShem (the Name) See Genesis 11:4

5 The Restored Name Exodus 20:7, states: “Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”

6 The Restored Name Isaiah 42:8 says: “I am the LORD, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, Nor My praise to graven images.”

7 The Restored Name Jeremiah 16:21 says: When you see the words “The LORD” in the KJV, that is a substitution for YHWH (Yahweh), or “Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.” e f e i

8 The Restored Name Exodus 20:7, states: “Thou shalt not take the name of efei thy Elohim in vain; for efei will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.”

9 The Restored Name Isaiah 42:8 says: “I am efei, that is My name; I will not give My glory to another, Nor My praise to graven images.”

10 The Restored Name Jeremiah 16:21 says: “Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is efei.”

15 (‘not to be uttered’ in order to never profane it in any way)
The Restored Name TetraGrammaton (‘not to be uttered’ in order to never profane it in any way)

16 Why is Restoration Important?
The Name appears in scripture over 6,000 times! Translators have purposely removed it to prevent its utterance Moses was called to “Declare this Name YHWH to the Nations” (Ex 6; Ex 9:16) David worshipped using this name YHWH And even Boaz greeted his field workers with, “YHWH” be with you But the pronunciation and use of His name (this simple 4 letter word) has been mostly lost or replaced with the titles of “LORD” in Christianity and “Adonai” (master) in Judaism

17 Why is Restoration Important?
Did you know that we are commanded to do many things with His name? Don’t take it in vain—don’t take it lightly (Ex 20:7) Declare it (Ex 9:16) Praise/Worship it with dance, song and instruments (Psalm 149:3) Call upon it (Zechariah 13:9) Don’t forget it (Jeremiah 23:27) Meditate on it (Malachi 3:16) Fear it (Malachi 4:2)

18 Why is Restoration Important?
There are also commanded blessings for guarding His name Unity (John 17:11) Love (John 17:26) Transformation Spur the Jews to jealousy Hasten the day of His return—He won’t return until the cry goes up, “Blessed is He who comes in the Name…” (Matt 23:39)

19 Why is Restoration Important?
The Name can appropriately be abbreviated Yah or Yahu (He is Yah) Hebrew personal names have meaning! EliYahu (Elijah) YeremiYahu (Jeremiah) YeshiYahu (Isaiah) YahuShafat (Josephat) NetanYahu (Israeli Prime Minister) YahuShuah (?) Yeshua!

20 Why is Restoration Important?
The Name has been preserved in this manner despite man’s best effort to rid the Bible of it It’s also preserved in real life: The Jew! All the disasters that have come upon them have failed to wipe out the Jews – in Hebrew Yahudim In Hebrew, the Tribe of Judah is Yahuda A Jew is a Yahudi Do you have any doubt as to why Satan would try, through Islam of course, to wipe out the Jews?

21 A Lesson in Hebrew Think of the verb “to be” (I am, I was, I will be)
In Hebrew, this is the word Hoveh YHWH (YHVH) therefore means Yah Hoveh = “Yah is” Psalm 68:4

22 Let’s Learn Hebrew

23 The Son’s Name New finds in scriptural archeology continue
Only 9 Papyrus NT Scriptures were known prior to 1900 By 2008, the number had grown to 124 This is important because in these earlier manuscripts the name “Jesus” is absent Aramaic/Hebrew or Original Language texts point to Yahu, Yahshua or Yahushua for the Son’s name But, the name “Jesus” is only about 700 years old, and since there are no letters that make the “J” sound in Hebrew, we can probably conclude this is not the name above all names

24 The Son’s Name If Christ went by a Yah derivative (Yahushua—Yahu is salvation, or Yahshua—Yah is salvation) then the John 17:11 passage comes together, “…Father, guard them in Your Name which You have given Me…” (just like when we pass on our last name to our children) Now the “name above all names” (Phil 2:9) is shared by the Father, the Son and perhaps even the Holy Spirit (see John 14:26)

25 Reasons to Restore To identify and personally exalt the bearer of this Name as the Personal God of Israel and of the universe To proclaim and make His Name known unto the masses of believers who claim to follow Him and yet know not His Name – they must be able to sanctify and praise His Name so that His Name may be honored among all To know the intimate feeling of love and passion of worship that can only come through the closeness offered by the veil being torn in two at His Son’s crucifixion

26 Scriptural Reasons to Restore
And in that day shall ye say, Praise efei, call upon his name, declare his doings among the people, make mention that his name is exalted. Sing unto efei; for he hath done excellent things: this is known in all the earth. Isaiah 12:4-5 Thus saith efei the maker thereof, efei that formed it, to establish it; efei is his name; Call unto me, and I will answer thee… Jeremiah 33:2-3a

27 Conclusion We can conclude that the Name above all names contains the root word Yah Name shared by both the Father and Son It is something worth going after Avoid past mistakes of the “sacred name movement” We continue to study/learn/be open Stay humble

28 Where Do We Go From Here? Practical Applications/Suggestions:
Start with the Father’s name Substitute Yah for LORD when reading scripture Substitute Yah when singing “LORD” Might start with Psalm 68:4, again the one place where in King James that the root name Yah was not changed into Lord Emphasize the meaning of “Hallelujah” (Praise be to Yah) Clarify that there is only one Name above all names –all the other “names” of God are “titles” that describe attributes about Him like: Lord of lords King of kings Prince of peace

29 A Final Thought …and discard the rest!
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8 …and discard the rest!
