4 Possible answers… The human impact on geography, the topographical features of the Earth, includes deforestation, desertification, and rising sea levels. Deforestation, the clearing of trees and forests for building material and warmth, has caused much of the forests in the U.S. to be wiped off of the map and our landscape. Civil wars and ethnic conflicts can also cause political borders to change…

12 What is Social Studies? The study of how people over time have interacted with each other and their environment in order to live.

13 It includes five different areas (strands):
Geography Culture History Government Economics

14 Geography is the study of people, places and the environment.

15 There two types of geography:
Physical Geography – the study of land forms Cultural Geography - the study of people

16 We use different types of maps to study geography, including:
Physical Maps – show land features like mountains and rivers. Political Maps – show human borders such as countries and states. Population Distribution Maps – show where large groups of people live. Resource Maps – show which raw materials can be found in a particular area.

19 History includes the study of:
Events that have changed the way people live People who have changed society

20 We learn about history by studying two different kinds of sources:
Primary Sources– documents or objects from the actual time period Secondary Sources – documents or objects that interpret or analyze primary sources
