1 DESERT BIOME

2 LOCATION Located toward middle latitudes above and below the equator.
Covers about 20% of Earth’s surface.

3 TEMPERATURES Hot deserts reach temperatures of 110°F during the day and can drop as low as 50°F at night.

4 PRECIPITATION Deserts are characterized by their lack of rain.
Annual rainfalls average between cm or 4-10 inches per year.

5 ANIMALS Animals are typically active at night and burrow underground to stay cool during the day. 1st level consumers are ground squirrels, kangaroo rats, birds, and big horn sheep.

6 ANIMALS 2nd and 3rd level consumers are snakes, owls, foxes, coyotes, and armadillo lizards

7 PLANTS Various types of cacti such as barrel cacti, prickly pear cacti, and Saguaro cacti. Other plants include small woody shrubs, Mojave aster, and yucca plants
