Making Marriage Marvelous or Miserable
Bitterness ruins marriage relationships. This lesson deals with the Causes, Consequences and Correction of bitterness.

2. Causes of Bitterness
Internalizing resentment creates bitterness! (Luke 15:28-30)
The sinful behavior of one spouse can generate bitterness in the other spouse. (Eccl. 7:26; Proverbs12:4; 1 Samuel 25:3, 25)

3. Consequences of Bitterness
Bitterness causes unseemly and sinful personality changes.
Bitterness poisons the one infected by it! (Job 36:13-14 )
Bitterness prevents a husband from fulfilling. his role (Eph. 5:28-29; 1 Peter 3:7; Col. 3:19)
Bitterness prevents forgiveness.
Bitterness hinders one’s spouse from changing her ways for the better.
Bitterness spreads (Hebrews 12:15)

4. Correction of Bitterness
BITTERNESS MUST BE CORRECTED! (Ephesians 4:31; Colossians 3:19)
CONFESS your bitterness (James 5:16)
FORGIVE AND SEEK FORGIVENESS (Colossians 3:12-13)
Forgiveness is not just forgetting or excusing.
It is more than just tolerance or acceptance (Ephesians 4:2; Romans 14:19)
It is needed because sin has been committed (Luke 17:3)

5. You are the only person you can change, and only you can change you!
You can choose to let bitterness go and embrace the marvelous relationship God intended for you!
You can choose to make it bitter or better!
