Session Description Classified professionals contribute to the success of California Community College students in all phases and services of a college community. In this session, we will explore how the roles and responsibilities of classified professionals support faculty curriculum developers, how faculty and administrators work together to support curriculum development, and finally, how all three groups maintain and support the processes that bring about the best programs of study for our students. 5 Classified Roles on the Curriculum Committee
Researcher Understands and explains any research needed for prerequisite validation Assists with obtaining data/statistics Admissions & Records/Degree Evaluator Reviews all programs Alerts the curriculum specialist and the faculty chair when edits need to be made Financial Aid May not serve on the committee but is informed of changes to programs that may affect financial aid eligibility ASCCC Curriculum Institute, July 10-13, 2019

Under the direction of the Vice President of Academic Services or Instruction - provide highly responsible, complex, and sensitive administrative and technical support to the Curriculum Committee Curriculum Specialist titles vary from college-to-college Curriculum Scheduling Coordinator, Curriculum & Scheduling Specialist, Instructional Analyst, Curriculum Secretary, Curriculum Resource Specialist, Program Coordinator Duties may also be part of other positions Academic Services Tech, Staff Assistant/Curriculum, Administrative Assistant, Administrative Technician-Curriculum, Instruction Office Assistant/Curriculum, Articulation Assistant ASCCC Curriculum Institute, July 10-13, 2019

General Job Duties Maintain the college curriculum and corresponding databases by coordinating and tracking curriculum-related documents (courses and programs) from development through Board and Chancellor’s office approval as required. Ensure compliance with District policy and state curriculum regulations. Serve as liaison and technical resource to the Curriculum Committee; assist in the preparation of the agenda and materials; develop and recommend timelines; update curriculum and academic programs websites; support logistics for curriculum meetings; attend meetings and take minutes. Assist with the preparation, review, printing, distribution, and updating college online and hardcopy publications including the catalog and addendum. ASCCC Curriculum Institute, July 10-13, 2019

8 General Job Duties (continued)
Provide technical information, assistance, and training to related administrative and faculty users regarding the curriculum components of current administrative software. Enter approved curriculum information into internal and/or external databases. Develops, maintains, and updates a variety of reports, lists, and databases related to curriculum and programs. Research, compile, analyze, and summarize data for special projects, programs and reports. May include program review and SLO assessment. Other duties vary by district and college. Faculty Chair Works closely with the Curriculum Specialist to create a calendar and deadlines to create agendas for committee meetings during the technical review process to streamline the local approval process all things having to do with curriculum! Ensuring that the institution is paying attention to new initiatives and coordinating discussions about strategy and impact: Examples: Streamlining program approval processes Guided Pathways AB 705 Student Success Funding Formula Whatever else the leg or CO dreams up for us… Virginia--Discussion at the State level on streamlining program approval processes. The Curriculum Chair/Committee and Curriculum Dean/CIO working together to implement structures needed to support Guided Pathways, AB 705 compliance, and increase in completions. Acquiring the soft skills needed for enhanced collaboration and communication among the Curriculum Chair, Curriculum Dean, and CIO/building relationships as a co-responsibility between the Curriculum Chair and CIO. 12 Administrators: Thinking about systems
Potential impact of curricular changes to other colleges in the district or region Impacts on the student Do we regularly offer required courses? Program revisions and discontinuance Implications for student support services Impact of curriculum decisions in advising, articulation, financial aid, etc. How does the program align with labor market? K12/Adult Ed? Universities? Communicating within and without the college about curricular changes K12/AE Pathways Impacts to “other” departments Virginia--Audience shares best practices on how their colleges are doing this. Monthly meetings between CIOs and Curriculum chairs locally and within district? Making sure that student services knows of college changes.
