State of the art in 2003 In March 2003, structural indicators have been included in the CEIES potential indicators list. In March, request by Eurostat for checking the list for the typology. In July, a reminder has been sent out. Reactions: Only 8 out of 14 Member States reacted. Only 5 out of 12 candidate countries reacted. CEIES-indicators December 2003

Some common findings The list of indicators is too large. The B-indicators will not pose a big problem. Most responding countries agree roughly on the A-D classification, though this needs further discussion. Specification of the years sought is still needed. Some definitions have still to be discussed. There is no information about the work schedule. Legitimacy of the questionnaire was questioned by some countries. CEIES-indicators December 2003

Conclusion and recommendation
Main conclusion: The list is useful. The list of indicators is too large. Recommendation: Narrow down the list of indicators. Criterion for narrowing down: focus on structural indicators. How to proceed? Taskforce? Workshop? CEIES-indicators December 2003
