1 Aerodrome Certification Workshop
Aerodrome Certification : Obstacles Control Eng. Mohamed Iheb Hamdi ICAO MID Regional Officer for Aerodromes and Ground Aids (AGA Aerodrome Certification Workshop Paris, France 18-20 Dec 2018

2 OLS : Obstacles Limitation Surfaces
The take-Off Climb Surface Inner Horizontal Surface Conical Surface Transitional Surface The approach Surface

3 Obstacles

4 OLS Inner horizontal Surface and Conical Surface
To protect airspace for visual circling prior to landing Approach and Transitional Surfaces Define the volume of airspace which should be kept clear of obstacles to protect the aircraft in the final phase of the Approach-to-Land Manoeuvre Take-Off Climb Surface Provide protection for aircraft taking off with respect to obstacles

5 OLS: Design (Example Code 4 _ P-APP) Transitional Surface
Runway Strip C C Approach Surface H Slope =14.3% D = H / Slope Runway Strip C - C

6 OLS: Design (Example Code 4 _ P-APP) Inner horizontal Surface
Transitional Surface F Inner horizontal Surface Runway Strip F - F

7 OLS: Design (Example Code 4 _ P-APP) Conical surface
T T Inner horizontal Surface Slope= 5% Conical Surface Transitional Surface T - T

8 OLS: Design (Example Code 4 _ P-APP) Approach Surface
Divergence = 15 % 1st section 2nd section Horizontal Section Bande Slope2=2,5% D2 H2 H1 = D1 * slope1 H2 = D2 * Slope2 H3 = H1 + H2 H3 Slope1=2% D1 H1 B - B

9 OLS: Design (Example Code 4 _ P-APP) Take Off climb surface
Divergence=12.5 % Runway Strip H H = D * Slope Slope= 1.6 % A - A D

10 OFZ: Obstacle Free Zone

11 OFZ – Obstacle free Zone
OFZ composed of: Inner Transitional Surface (ITS) Balked Landing Surface Inner Approach Surface Surfaces intended to protect aeroplanes from fixed or mobile obstacles during category I, II or III operations when approaches are continued below decision height and during any subsequent missed approach or balked landing with all engines operating normally, It is not intended to supplant the requirement of other surfaces or areas where these are more demanding

12 Outer Horizontal Surface
Some States Mandate a further surface : The Outer Horizontal Surface with extends from the periphery of the conical surface to a radius of 15,000m from the aerodrome reference point
