4 RECAP EXAMPLE: I will finally go bungee jumping. I will pass my driving test. I will try to smile more. Put your name on your paper, fold it up and put in the centre of the table. How many types of tenses are there? 3 What are they? Past, Present, Future Which tenses are the following sentences? Yesterday, I walked to the newsagents. I’m walking to the newsagents. I will walk to the newsagents after work. TASK: Write sentences using the future tense. Write down 3 or more future goals you want to achieve by September.

What is a text? ‘The words of something written’ ‘The main body of a written work’

6 Purpose What is purpose?
Purpose means ‘what is the aim or goal?’ of the text. Or ‘who is it aimed at?’ Different texts have different purposes. This is dependant on The audience - who is the text written for? The source- where it is form?

What is the purpose of this text? Wants you to picture what is being described Makes use of adjectives and adverbs Uses comparisons to help create the scene such as ‘soft as silk’ Employs the readers 5 senses

Avoid repetition Contain facts Give information in a clear way Usually to ‘advise’ or ‘tell’ you something

Instructs you or tells you ‘how’ to do something use verbs at the beginning of a sentence Language is direct Unnecessary words are left out Use diagrams or pictures to help understanding Use numbers or bullet points

Create a persuasive advert for a beauty product or a salon. Use persuasive devices to persuade customers to buy your product.
