1
Less testing and individual SLO targets
APPR in School Year
2
Simplification is the Rule
For 90% of teachers evaluated by APPR there will be: No more setting of SLOs/Targets No mandatory administration of pre- and post-tests A Districtwide target with proven reliability for Student Performance rating
3
What does this look like for You?
Individual teachers can access pre- and post tests- if they want information about where their students are; no deadlines apply No more conferencing/negotiating with your administrator over target setting for APPR The Observation-–what we call the final evaluation—remains unchanged APPR appeal process remains the same
4
What does this look like for you?
From September until the following August, the Student Performance component of APPR is on “automatic pilot” for 90% of our members The Districtwide target is like a group goal for K-12 applying to teachers of all subjects except for some secondary teachers (next slide)
5
What are the Exceptions?
Using a tailored rubric? Members who use a different rubric will see no changes Currently the following members do not use the Danielson Rubris: Speech Teachers. Library/Media Specilaists, School Social Workers, Guidance Counselors and School Psychologists Science 4 & 8 and Regents course teachers The State may require individual SLOs for teachers with 50% of their student load ending in a Regents exam and/or for teachers of Science 4 & 8.
6
Why Did we do this? 90% of districts in the State are using group targets, not individual SLOs. Almost all of Monroe County districts report very satisfactory results with group targets So do other BIG 5 Cities (Buffalo, Syracuse, Binghamton, etc.) RCSD school administrators already use group goals and get good results The group score is effective
7
Why are we doing this? This will reduce stress from guessing results months before a post-test is given The Student Performance results will be better across the District The Observation component-–the part most closely involving you—resumes its place as the key to one’s rating It is a one-year agreement that could be renegotiated, if needed
8
Why did We do this? Less testing More time for teaching and learning
No more individual SLOs Less reliance on the “junk science” that is APPR Less stress
9
APPR Agreement The Agreement remains in place-– no changes
