2 The Greek Gods The Greek gods had more powers than mortals could even imagine. They could change night into day, turn people into animals, and punish men with eternal torture.

Became father of the gods by killing his father, Oranos Married his sister, Rhea, goddess of Earth Better known as Father Time

4 Zeus Son of Cronos and Rhea King of the gods
Married Hera his eldest sister Symbols are the thunderbolt and the eagle

5 Rhea Gave a rock to her husband Married to Cronus
She saved Zeus’s life Mother of Demeter, Hera, Hestia, Poseidon, Hades, and Zeus.

6 Pandora’s Box When opened, it lets out all the woes of the world
Owner is Pandora whose name means “all gifted”

7 Orpheus His music charmed Hades He could not trust
Invented the seven-stringed lyre

8 Dionysus Vine and festival god Most important of the nature gods
Zeus is his father

Any man or woman struck by the arrows will fall immediately in love

Helped Zeus escape the vigilance of Hera Was hurt by Narcissus because he found her conversation boring

Could run faster than any horse

Apollo was her brother

Patron of liars, gamblers, and thieves Stole a herd of cattle when he was only a half day old

26 Demeter Harvest goddess Ceres is her Roman name
Daughter of Cronus and Rhea

27 Aphrodite Love and beauty goddess Married Hephaestus
She had no parents Aphrodite means “foam-born”

28 Titans Prometheus was a Titan
The first brood of divine creatures produced by the marriage of Uranus and Gaia

29 Gaea (Gaia) Created the mountains and the sea Was known as Earth
Mother of Uranus, who had no father

31 Hera Proud as a peacock Daughter of Cronus and Rhea Queen of the gods
