3 Year 3/4 cycle Myself and Mr Venus will be working together this year to deliver our broad and exciting curriculum. Year 4 will still address the objectives from their age but will do the same topic as Year 3.

4 Reading expectations • Give a personal point of view on a text.
• Can re-explain a text with confidence. • Justify inferences with evidence, predicting what might happen from details stated or implied. • Use appropriate voices for characters within a story. • Identify how sentence type can be changed by altering word order, tenses, adding/deleting words or amending punctuation. • Skims and scans to locate information and/or answer a question Please complete your child’s reading diary on a regular basis. Children will receive merits for reading daily

5 Writing expectations • Vary sentence structure, using different openers. • Use adjectival phrases (e.g. biting cold wind). • Appropriate choice of noun or pronoun. • Apostrophe for singular and plural possession. • Comma after fronted adverbial (e.g. Later that day, I heard bad news.) • Use commas to mark clauses. • Use connectives to link paragraphs. • Legible, joined handwriting of consistent quality.

6 Maths expectations Count backwards through zero to include negative numbers. • Compare and order numbers beyond 1000. Compare and orders numbers with 2 decimal places. • Read Roman numerals to 100. • Find 1000 more/less than a given number. • Count in multiples of 6, 7, 9, 25 & 1000. Recall and use multiplication & division facts of all tables to 12 x 12. • Recognise place value of any 4-digit number. • Round any number to the nearest 10, 100 or 1000. Round decimals with 1dp to nearest whole number. • Solve number and practical problems that involve all of the above.

7 Add & subtract numbers up to 4-digits using efficient written method (column) and numbers with up to 1 decimal place. • Multiply 2-digit by 1-digit and 3-digit by 1-digit. Divide 3 digit by 1-digit. • Count up/down in hundredths. Write equivalent fractions. Add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. • Read, write and convert time between analogue and digital 12 & 24 hour clocks. • Measure and calculate the perimeter and area of simple shapes. • Identify acute and obtuse angles. Compare and order angles.

8 Year 4 Multiplication tables check (MTC)
The MTC is a key stage 2 (KS2) assessment to be taken by pupils at the end of year 4. The MTC is focused on the fluent recall of multiplication facts. This is included in the national curriculum (2014) statutory programme of study for mathematics at key stage 1 (KS1) and KS2. The MTC will be delivered as an online, on-screen digital assessment. Under standard administration, the check will take each pupil less than 5 minutes to complete. It will be automatically scored, and results will be available to schools once the assessment window closes.

9 Please make sure your children are practising their times tables at home using TT Rock stars. The format for the MTC is similar to the sound check level 5 x 3 = ?

11 Homework Homework will be topic based and children will receive a merit for completing this.

12 Spellings Children will be given an A4 piece of paper with the half termly spellings on at the start of each half term. I will also put this on the window for reference. The spellings will be tested on a Monday The spelling words will be words from the Year 4 curriculum, unless your child has been identified as needing additional support in spellings and they will have different spellings. Children will receive merits for achieving full marks in their test.

13 PE Children will have 2 hours of PE a week, either with myself or Mr Crossfield. A letter will be sent home when I know their allocated PE days.
